UPDATE: It was announced that Western Michigan will play Purdue out of the Big Ten in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl from Ford Field in Detroit.

After a mediocre 7-5 season, it looks like the Western Michigan Broncos have punched their ticket to the college football postseason

According to sources close to the situation, Western Michigan will be invited to the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl which will take place on December 27th from Ford Field in Detroit. Their expected opponent is Northwestern out of the Big Ten.

“We have great interest in Western Michigan,” Little Caesars Bowl Executive Director Ken Hoffman said. “They’ve never been to the game in Detroit and we’re in our 15th year.

“I think there’d be tremendous interest from (the WMU and Detroit) community. … I think it’d be a tremendous game and a tremendous atmosphere if Western Michigan wound up in Detroit.”

This will be Western’s fifth bowl invite in the programs history, the third under head coach Bill Cubit and the first since the 2008
Texas Bowl. The Broncos also have never won a post season bowl.
