The Pistons ended up striking a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, but returning to Detroit probably isn’t what most Motor City fans initially hoped for.

Friday, the Pistons acquired shooter Joe Harris and two second-round picks (2027 via Dallas and 2029 via Milwaukee) for nothing but salary relief going the other way to Brooklyn.

Harris isn’t Cam Johnson and seems to follow a pattern that Pistons fans have become accustomed to despite the available cap space they had/have coming into this off-season. Harris will generate some floor space and should improve the team’s shooting from the wing. Weaver and the Pistons also aren’t getting themselves into any long-term commitments with a 31-year-old player with Harris’ $19.9M contract expiring at the end of the season. Still, though, Harris isn’t that upper-echelon player Detroit needs to pair with a young core.

With the move, the Pistons have roughly $7 million left to play around with in free agency so there’s still hope and an expectation that Weave makes a bigger splash this offseason.

For the Nets, they shed that $19M salary and avoid losing a first-round pick in the process which in and of itself is enough to declare this a victory for them.
