Detroit

After not extending a qualifying offer to him, Saturday the Red Wings signed their newly acquired forward Klim Kostin to a two-year contract worth an annual average value of $2M.

Kostin, who was dealt to Detroit earlier in the week along with Kailer Yamamoto was also being pursued by Avangard Omsk of the KHL. However, Avangard eventually backed off their interest in Kostin after he was dealt to the Motor City while Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings ultimately decided to buy out the contract of Yamamoto.

Kostin, who had 11 goals and 21 points in 57 games for the Oilers last season had until noon today to sign a contract with the Red Wings before entering the unrestricted free-agent pool.

Gustav Lindstrom returning on a one-year deal

Although it wasn’t a surprise that Detroit got a deal done with Kostin, it may be somewhat of a shocker that they also agreed to terms with Gustav Lindstrom on a one-year deal worth $950,000.

Lindstrom had a relatively quiet season notching just one goal and seven assists in 36 games last season. It seemed like both sides were ready to move on as well as the 24-year-old defenseman was exploring options in Sweden before deciding to give it a go in Detroit for at least one more year.

The Red Wings also signed forward Matt Luff to a one-year, two-way contract.
