49er’s quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo apparently isn’t going anywhere, despite rumors of plenty of teams interested in the starting QB.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter citing sources, chances that the Niners trade Garoppolo is “remote” even though multiple teams are expected to contact San Francisco about a swap. This also considering the 49ers are expected to draft a quarterback with their third overall selection in tonight’s NFL Draft.

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have maintained the idea that they would stick with Jimmy G. through the 2021 season and reevaluate the situation after that. This despite using three first-round selections to move up to the third spot in tonight’s draft. In any sense, it would seem the right thing to do would be to trade Garoppolo to try and build back some of that lost draft stock, which they still can do if Shanahan and Lynch are just using the smokescreen.
