The Lions will look to keep offensive tackle Corey Hilliard around as they team plans on tendering him Tuesday preventing him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. The Lions have until 4PM ET on Tuesday to tender Hilliard, linebacker DeAndre Levey and defensive tackle Sammie Hill or risk losing them to free agency.

According to MLive.com, Hilliard will receive a “low” tender given that he has less than four years of NFL experience and was drafted in the sixth round. If a team is interested in signing him the Lions have seven days to counter or receive a similar pick as compensation.

Originally a sixth round selection by the New England Patriots in 2007, Hilliard made $685,000 last season. That number is however expected to be bumped up to $1.2 million this upcoming season with the one-year tender.

Meanwhile, the Lions plan on letting WR Maurice Stovall test the free agent market.

Appearing in 15 games for the Lions last season (primarily on special teams) Stovall originally signed a one-year contract with the team. He had 1 reception for eight yards in 2011.
