The situation with Rip Hamilton, John Keuster and the Detroit Pistons just seems to get a little more twisted each day.

Chris Iott of Mlive.com has posted what apparently happened (or didn’t happen) Saturday night (times are approx.).

6:15 p.m.: John Kuester was asked about the Hamilton situation during his pre-game session with the media. This is exactly how the exchange went:

Reporter: “Have you spoken with Rip since last night’s game?”

Kuester: “You know what? I’ll tell you, we’ve made overtures. One of the things that’s important is, he is somebody that’s on our team now. And we know that. We’ve reached out to him.”

Reporter: “Is there a better relationship now?”

The first word out of Kuester’s mouth was “no,” but he quickly switched the scope of his answer to focus on how the team has been searching for a winning combination and how well the current rotation has been working.

7:45 p.m.: I saw a Tweet from a media member that said Kuester had said prior to the game that he had met with Hamilton. Have learned since then that this was erroneous and was simply a misinterpretation of Kuester’s “we’ve reached out” comment, but I believed it to be true at the time. (This is important later.)

10:20 p.m.: Not knowing that the Tweet was erroneous, after the game I asked Hamilton directly, “Did you meet with Kuester?” He said no. “Really?” I asked. He repeated that he had not.

Of course, had I known at the time that the Tweet was erroneous, I would have followed up my original question with another direct and valid question to Hamilton, like, “Did Kuester reach out to you?”)

Now according to Iott, the only thing that is known about all of this is that Keuster said he “made overtures” and “reached out” to Hamilton. However, Hamilton is saying he never met with Keuster.

No further comment was made after the team practiced on Sunday.
