Red Wings veteran forward Mike Modano has been a healthy scratch for most of Detroit’s playoff run however he could be inserted into the Wings’ lineup for Game 4 against the San Jose Sharks Friday night.

“You’d love to be out there, there’s no question,” Modano said Thursday. “It’s a situation where Mike (Babcock) is making that final decision. But I don’t know anything about tomorrow until I come in here and see what’s on the board. It hurts not being out there, it’s tough to deal with. But you do what you can to stay ready.”

With the Red Wings down 3-0 in their best of 7 series against San Jose, Detroit has no other option but to pull out all the stops. With Modano’s fresh legs the Wings could benefit from his presence, especially on the second power play unit.

Wings’ head coach Mike Babcock said he would make all lineup decisions Friday.

Modano, who is one of the greatest American born hockey players of all time will more than likely retire at the end of the season.
