Andy Murray: Western Michigan will continue to play top-notch opponents

Like the rest of the University, new Western Michigan hockey head coach Andy Murray doesn’t know what conference the team will be playing in after the 2012-13 season. What Murray does know though is the upstart program will continue to play top-notch opponents on their schedule.

“We’re looking at different things, but we’re going to keep an allegiance with Big Ten schools and we’re going to keep playing those teams,” he said. “They want to play us and we want to play them. We’ll have them on our schedule.

“We’re going to have an attractive schedule for our fans and for the players to see that they’re playing tough teams. It’s really the only thing I can say right because ultimately, I think the decision is going to be made at a level above mine. I think the presidents and athletic directors of these institutions are going to make these decisions. The only thing I can say is that we’ll have a good schedule.”

WMU athletic director Kathy Beauregard said Wednesday said that there have been no developments as to where the Broncos would be player after the 2012-13 season. The WCHL have invited the program to join but it’s been speculated that Western could be waiting on an invitation from the newly formed National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
