Broncos dismiss sophomore cornerback Raheam Buxton from the team

Western Michigan head football coach Bill Cubit announced after Thursday’s practice that sophomore cornerback Raheam Buxton is no longer with the program.

“He’s done. I wish him well, needs to go,” Cubit said of the sophomore who started five games as true freshman, but had played in only one of the Broncos’ three games this fall.

“We want him to finish up (the semester) strong,” Cubit said of Buxton, from Pakokee, Fla., keeping the details vague. “We’ll give him all the academic services and help him out. He needs a fresh start.”

According to Graham Couch of the Kalamazoo Gazette, Buxton’s time with the WMU football program has been both interesting and tragic. Couch writes that after arriving late due to an NCAA clearinghouse issue, he played early as a freshman. That season however was overshadowed by the shooting death of his 21-year-old brother Paul the night before a Broncos game.
