Chris Iott of MLive.com is reporting that the Denver Nuggets reportedly called the Detroit Pistons in an attempt to obtain Richard ‘Rip’ Hamilton.
The story, written by TNT analyst David Aldridge, was published Friday night on NBA.com.
“A league source said Denver had made a recent attempt to pry Detroit guard Rip Hamilton from the Pistons without success to show Anthony that the organization could still put talented players around him,” Aldridge wrote.
The original story did not elaborate on who the Pistons would’ve gotten in return for Hamilton but it remains no secret that the team would be willing to move Rip due to the logjam at shooting guard. Pistons’ President Joe Dumars also recently told Pistons.com that he had opportunities to move players this summer but did not pull the trigger because nothing offered in return was to his liking.
“We had opportunities to make trades this summer, but I thought they were deals that were going to make us regress or deals that were lateral, at best,” Dumars said. “So I’m sure that would have satisfied the people who are asking, hey, let’s just do a deal. But that wouldn’t have made us better.”
I still believe that Joe has his hands tied regarding making trades due to the ownership situation which isn’t something that he nor the team will admit right now. However, current owner Karen Davidson has said that she still hopes to find a new owner for the team before the regular season starts next month.
