Lynn Henning of the Detroit News actually had an article up yesterday saying that the Tigers are unlikely to bring back catcher Gerald Laird for next season. As it stands right now the Tigers have three options in which they could do concerning Laird one being re-signing him, two would be to offer him arbitration (which he would probably accept) or just outright let him walk. I’m not sure what type of free agent he is if he were decline arbitration, which again he more then likely will not.
I just think this year is more a matter of confidence,” he said, with a sigh. “There’ve been times when I’d have a good game, get a couple of hits, and then I couldn’t seem to get the next good game. I just couldn’t get any confidence going.
“I know I can have success. It just like sometimes when it rains it pours.”
This season has been one to forgot for Laird who is hitting a dismal .189 in 65 games. His defense has also tailed off after having a much more productive year defensively as well last season.
