So, it only took Al Avila a five-game losing streak, weekend sweep to Cleveland to go along with 20 straight losses to their AL Central rivals to finally kick the tires on calling up Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal, the team’s second and fifth-best prospects according to the MLB Pipeline.

The Detroit Tigers are calling up three of their top prospects this week, general manager Al Avila announced Monday.

Infielder Isaac Paredes will be recalled from Toledo to join the team immediately. Left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal will start Tuesday, while right-hander Casey Mize will start on Wednesday.

Dawel Lugo meanwhile was designated for assignment — who as one of the pieces acquired for J.D. Martinez from Arizona — to make room for Paredes while corresponding moves to make room for Mize and Skubal still have to be made.

Both pitchers will make their debuts in Chicago as the Tigers being a four-game series agains the White Sox starting tonight. Skubal is currently penciled in for a Tuesday start while Mize will follow on Wednesday.

Needless to say though these debuts are some of the more highly anticipated we’ve seen for the Tigers in quite some time as fans will begin to see some of that rebuilding hopefully begin to come to life. And fuck do the Tigers need it as the team has given up a total of 21 runs over the course of the past three games with 14 of those runs coming from stating pitching alone.
