Thursday, the Oakland Roots released a statement via Twitter with a surprise announcement that head coach Juan Guerra would be put on “administrative leave” and that assistant Noah Delgado would be named the interim.

Currently, the Roots are 6-12-7 heading into this weekend’s action against the San Diego Loyal, so perhaps the apparent drama surrounding Guerra is based on performance as Oakland is currently under the playoff line?

However, Roots blogger Jonathan Comeaux posted a tweet perhaps elaborating on Oakland’s statement saying that the Phoenix Rising, who just parted ways with head coach Rich Schantz, have been engaged in talks with Guerra “without permission while he’s still under contract with Oakland”.

Comeaux’s “understanding” of the situation would certainly add some credence to the whole thing, considering it really wouldn’t make any sense to sack Guerra now, considering you’re still well within striking distance of the playoffs. Nonetheless, if what Comeaux is saying is indeed true you have to wonder what kind of penalty could possibly be coming Phoenix’s way.
