Michigan State continues to show that they not only can contend on the football field, but off as well.

Today they got their best verbal commitment yet when defensive end Se’Von Pittman chose the Spartans over the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Michigan and Ohio State.

The 6-foot-5 and 245 pounder our of Canton, Ohio is considered a four star recruit from Rivals.com and is listed as the 61st best player in the country for the 2012 class.

According to Greg Johnson of the Grand Rapids Press, Pittman attended Canton McKinley, a school that often sends its top players to Ohio State University.

“It was great getting the decision out of the way because now I can focus on other things, like my senior season,” Pittman told Rivals.com.

“What made me commit to Michigan State was coach (Pat) Narduzzi (defensive coordinator and primary recruiter of Pittman) and coach (Mark) Dantonio (head coach). They’re great coaches and I wanted to be a part of something like that, and just the fact that I wanted to be different. I wanted to go there and make my own name and be Se’Von Pittman at Michigan State.”

Pittman is a very effective edge pass rusher with a 4.6 40-yard dash time. He is the sixth verbal commitment for Michigan State for 2012.
