To no one’s surprise, the Mel Tucker era at Michigan State is officially coming to an end.

According to a tweet from Chris Solari, the school plans to inform Tucker that they will fire him for cause meaning he’s going to miss out on a shit ton of money… somewhere in the vicinity of $80M.

Tucker’s firing after signing a 10-year, $95M extension with the school back in November of 2021 comes in the wake of an investigation into the sexual harassment of rape survivor Brenda Tracy by the head coach in 2022.

In their letter of intent, Michigan State cites the following within their contract with Tucker:

“clause for termination” includes, in relevant part, the following:
(a) the Coach materially breaches this agreement;

(c) the Coach engages in any conduct which constitutes moral turpitude or which, in the University’s reasonable judgment, would tend to bring public disrespect, contempt, or ridicule upon the University (e.g. material insubordination or impropriety involving a student).

Currently, a Title IX hearing is scheduled for October 5 during Michigan State’s bye week, however, these latest developments into Tucker’s status with the University provide a cloud of uncertainty on that hearing. Ironically too, this announcement comes after Michigan State got this shit kicked out of them by Washington Saturday afternoon.
