According to the Detroit News, Detroit Pistons owner Karen Davidson says another prospective buy is in place if the exclusive talks with Platinum Equity CEO Tom Gores falls apart.
The News also cites other knowledgeable sources that this new bidder would enter the picture the moment stops exclusively negotiating with the team.
“David has mentioned it, frequently,” said a source involved in the current process. “At this moment, with the price points on the team driven down by two sets of failed — or, so far, failing — negotiations, you might see others who are interested, too.”
The exclusive negotiating period with Gores and the Pistons ended on February 25th with no extension being publicly announced.  Talks have continued with some optimism expressed.
The Detroit Free Press reported back on February 10th that a tentative deal had been reached between Gores and Davidson however Gores’ representatives later commented that the two sides were still talking.
It is unclear who this potential new bidder is however Ilitch Holdings executive Tom Wilson mentioned earlier this past week that the Ilitch family was still interested in purchasing the team. Ilitch Holdings also held a 30 exclusive negotiating period with Davidson that failed to produce an agreement.
