Steve Kornacki of Mlive.com writes that Tigers manager Jim Leyland is unsure when Joel Zumaya, Daniel Schlereth and Carlos Guillen will be back in action for the Tigers.
Zumaya had some soreness in his elbow that was caused by some scar tissue that had torn. He hasn’t pitched since throwing one shutout inning Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays in Lakeland.
Asked when he might be able to pitch again, Zumaya said, “Don’t ask me about that right now. They’ve got all the answers. I don’t even have answers.”
Another Tigers reliever Daniel Schlereth who injured his hamstring on a fielding play on Monday says he hopes to be back in about a week.
Carlos Guillen who has been out of action since having micro fracture surgery on his knee on September 17th is apparently ahead of schedule according to manager Jim Leyland.
Guillen has been hitting and fielding since the beginning of spring training but says he will not be back next week.
“Next week?” he said. “No, not yet. But I’m feeling better every day.”
Schlereth’s injury really is of no concern. However Guillen and especially Zumaya obviously have a history of significant injuries so anytime you hear of them missing time it is somewhat concerning.
