According to various reports, including Jim Knight of AnnArbor.com, Detroit Catholic Central senior Matt Godin will now be part of the 2012 University of Michigan recruiting class.

“To be honest, I grew up a Michigan fan,” he said. “They told me I could come in as a freshman and play right away.”

Godin, a 6-foot-6, 265-pound defensive end/defensive tackle said that his final choices came down to Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin.

According to Rivals.com Godin is now one of eight verbal commitments to Michigan that also had scholarship offers from Michigan State, joining offensive lineman Ben Braden, defensive end Pharaoh Brown, tight end Devin Funchess, linebacker Royce Jenkins-Stone, defensive end Mario Ojemudia, linebacker James Ross and tight end A.J. Williams.

This is definitely good news for the Wolverines who have really put an emphasis on the defensive side of the ball ever since Brady Hoke took over as head coach in Janurary as well as the addition of Greg Mattison as the defensive coordinator.
