Wednesday afternoon EA Sports announced that Lions WR Calvin Johnson will be the cover athlete for Madden 13 as he beat out Carolina QB Cam Newton with 52% of the vote.
The announcement was made during a long, drawn out SportsNation on ESPN from New York City.
Depending on how you feel about superstitions this is either good news or bad news if you’re a Lions fan given the well documented “curse” that has bestowed past Madden cover athletes.
Despite the “curse” this is something that Calvin wanted and is certainly capable of breaking (the curse).
Still, I’d prefer he not be on it… just in case.
