The NFL announced Monday that Lions head coach Jim Schwartz and 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh will not be fined or suspended after their altercation after Sunday’s 25-19 San Francisco win.

“Fortunately, there was no fighting and thus no basis for a fine,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement that can be read on Twitter. “However, both coaches told Ray Anderson today that their postgame conduct was wrong and will not happen again. We believe their response is the correct one and that their postgame conduct going forward will be more appropriate.”

Ray Anderson is currently the NFL’s Executive Vice President of Football Operations.

Schwartz also commented on the situation during his weekly press conference Monday afternoon.

During the conference, Schwartz mentioned that he regretted the actions taking away from the game however he did not issue any type of apology.

“I think it’s a regrettable situation,” Schwartz said. “I think, particularly, the fact that it detracted from what happened in the game. I think I’ll just leave it right there.”

After the game Sunday, Harbaugh indicated to the press that maybe he shook Schwartz hand too hard leading many to believe that Harbaugh was indirectly insulting Schwartz.

The two teams are scheduled to meet each other again in the 2012 season however Schwartz doesn’t believe any hard feelings will linger.

“It was very regrettable, and it’s something that there’s nothing going forward between us, personally, and between the two teams,” Schwartz said. “We need to play better and we need to come out with a win next time.”
