According to the Associated Press, NBA commissioner David Stern has said that the NBA has approved the sale of the Detroit Pistons to California businessman and Michigan native Tom Gores.

Stern said prior to game 1 of the NBA Finals that he expects the sale of the Pistons to close sometime this week.

The sale of the team to Gores was announced this past April after months of exclusive negotiating between Gores and previous owner Karen Davidson.

The AP points out that this could be a very active off-season for the Pistons once Gores officially takes over. It was reported this past weekend that the Pistons had cut ties with head coach John Kuester. The Pistons refuted those reports but it is expected that once the sale is finalized Kuester’s time as Pistons head coach is more than likely over.
