Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian international displayed an #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria shirt upon scoring his first Serie A goal Sunday.
Since the protests over police brutality that have broken out in the United States this past summer, Nigeria has seen an abundance of uprisings this past week as citizens demand overhauls to policing in that country.
CNN:
Protesters have staged daily marches nationwide for a week, calling for an overhaul of police forces. Police have responded to the demonstrations with beatings, tear gas and gunfire, which human rights group Amnesty International said had killed at least 10 people.
The protests have prompted a raft of announcements. The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a police unit that demonstrators have long accused of beatings, killings and extortion, was officially disbanded on Sunday.
Osimhen signed with Napoli this past July for a club record fee of €70 million which could potentially push €80 million with additions making Osimhen the most expensive transfer from the continent of Africa to date.
