There’s been plenty of reason not to get behind and support a team like the Michigan Stars FC, even when you look at the greater landscape of what soccer can and should be in the State and the U.S. in general. Our goal within the coming weeks is to put something more detailed out in terms of why the Stars are just another shining example of what is wrong and broken with soccer and it’s growth within the United States. I know that may seem a little ironic considering the Stars barely have a fan base and most people who see the headline to this entry probably have no fucking clue who the Michigan Stars FC actually are.
But there’s another reason outside of whats coming down the pipeline to not like the Michigan Stars…
Sitting a little over a week outside Election Day, news broke Monday that Donald Trump Jr. would be hosting a MAGA rally in Macomb County (shocker I know) tonight at 6 pm.
Interestingly enough though, that MAGA rally will be held at the newly dubbed “Michigan Stars Sports Center” in Washington Township.
On Monday, Oct. 26 Donald Trump Jr. will be in Macomb County where he is hosting a Make America Great Event.
He is the eldest child of President Donald Trump.
The MAGA event is taking place at Michigan Stars Sports Center and begins at 6 p.m. with doors opening to the public starting 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
It is being held only one day after Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris campaigns in Detroit. To date, it is still uncertain where exactly Harris will campaign in Detroit.
Aside from the obvious name of the place which use to be called “Total Sports Park”, it appears the name of the place took on it’s association with the Michigan Stars back in September based on documents filed with the State.
It’s unclear on our end who exactly the registered agent is (Djerdj Juncaj), however, there’s an obvious family association with Michigan Stars FC owner George Juncaj.
Now I know a ton of people out there are probably thinking, “why bother with any of this?” And “it’s their facility, they can host whoever they want!”
And that’s absolutely true, the Michigan Stars can host whomever they want.
But lets not totally ignore the multiple elephants in the room with this one.
First, you have a professional sports organization in Michigan with the Stars pretty much advertising to the public who they support for POTUS, even if that candidate is a complete fucking scumbag. I mean how else can you spin this when their name is on the damn building? Not to mention can you imagine the Red Wings hosting some MAGA meet and greet at the Hockeytown Cafe? It’s bad enough they have an association with DeVos entity Amway but actually hosting a MAGA event at a place like Hockeytown — a place owned by the Ilitch family and not the city like the JLA is on another completely shitty level.
And that’s what we have with the Michigan Stars.
Second, what kind of optics does this give when we as a society are still getting ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic? With coronavirus numbers still on the rise, this latest MAGA rally could very well be the latest super-spreader event in the Country. Again, imagine the Red Wings, Pistons, Lions, Detroit City FC, and/or Tigers being associated with some super-spreader political event that led to deaths?
Now I’ve never been one to try and claim that politics doesn’t belong in sports, personally I think that’s an absurd statement and nonsensical standard fans and media should expect when it comes to sports figures and organizations. But the Michigan Stars aligning themselves with Donald Trump tells you everything you need to know about the Michigan Stars.
