In the first scrimmage of the season, the Michigan State offense led by senior QB Kirk Cousins beat the Michigan State defense 67-63 on Saturday, MSU sports information reported. Greg Johnson of the Grand Rapids Press said that the practice was closed to the media and public which is a normal procedure by head coach Mark Dantonio.
According to reports, Kirk Cousins hit on 17-of-28 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Cousins was able to hit senior wide out Keshawn Martin with an 11-yard touchdown pass and sophomore tight end Dion Sims with a 10-yard touchdown pass.
Cousins threw one interception.
Via the MSU sports information Twitter account Dantonio indicated that the team practiced for 2 hours and 20 minutes running 129 plays. Furthermore Dantonio mentioned that he would like to see more emotion and intensity out of his team.
“We could have a very good football team, but when things get tough, we have to be able to reach down and find our identity,” Dantonio said via Twitter. “We’ll have a good football team; I don’t worry about that, but how good can we be? To reach our full potential, we must consistently play at a high level.”
Michigan State opens the season against Youngstown State on September 2nd at 7:30PM ET from Spartan Stadium.
