Al Alburquerque update

Tigers reliever Al Alburquerque was released from a Baltimore area hospital Saturday after being struck by a line drive above the left ear in batting practice. Alburquerque was standing in the outfield playing catch when the incident took place. While at the hospital it was determined Alburquerque suffered a mild concussion and was prescribed anti-seizure medication as a precaution.

After the teams road trip, Alburquerque will be driven back to Detroit by a member of the Tigers organization to avoid any added pressure that might come with flying.

Alburquerque was also placed on a mandatory 7 day concussion disabled list. Tigers head trainer Kevin Rand indicated that Alburquerque would be evaluated next week and that there was no time-table for his return.

Boesch improving

Chris Iott of Mlive.com reports that Tigers outfielder Brennan Boesch is still day-to-day with a sprained thumb but is moving in the right direction in terms of his recovery.

“Brennan’s continuing to improve,” Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said. “His range of motion and strength is continuing to improve. We’re going to try to put a bat in his hand today and let him see if he can handle the weight of the bat.

“If he’s able to do that then we’ll do some tee work and get a better idea where he’s at.”

Boesch initially suffered the injury this past Tuesday during an at bat against Cleveland.
