Michigan State held their media day Tuesday from East Lansing. Plenty of things stood out as Tom Izzo looks for a better turnout this year than their 19-15 record in 2010.

  • Redshirt freshman shooting guard Russell Byrd says he’s still feeling pain in his left foot. However doctors told him it is 100% healed and ready to give it a full go this season. “The pain, I don’t really care about pain,” Byrd said. “I just love being out there playing. I hope (it goes away). I almost don’t care. But I’d like it to.”
  • Head Coach Tom Izzo said the Spartans’ starting lineup at this point is Keith Appling at point guard, Valparaiso transfer Brandon Wood at shooting guard, Dawson at small forward, Draymond Green at power forward and either Derrick Nix or Adreian Payne at center.
  • Speaking of Derrick Nix, he debut his new trimmer self Tuesday. The 6-8 Nix is down nearly 30 pounds from last season to 267 which should certainly benefit the Spartans this season.
