According to the Detroit Free Press Michigan has lost two commitments for the upcoming season, kicker Matt Goudis from California and offensive lineman Jake Fisher from Traverse City.
Goudis, who previously committed to Boise State before Michigan has now committed to the Miami (FLA)
Michigan has two kickers on scholarship right now, Brendan Gibbons and Seth Brokehuizen who combined last season were only 4 for 14 on field goals. That stat along may force Hoke to offer a scholarship to a kicker however it isn’t uncommon that a Big Ten team has a walk on kicker on the roster.
Jake Fisher is the number 5 rated player in Michigan in the 2011 recruiting class by Rivals.com.
With Fisher and Goudis both de-committing, Michigan now only has 10 known oral commitments for next season.
Michigan may have other options in Justin Meram who is a U-M soccer player. He worked out with the football team last spring and a bit in the fall. However Meram was drafted in by the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer which may lure him away from school next season. Michigan also used punter Will Hagerup on kickoffs last season and was talked to about field goals by Rodriguez’s staff. There is still no indication though if this is a route that Hoke’s staff would take.
