Three days…

That was the extent of Glenn “Schemy” Schembechler‘s stint as Michigan’s assistant director of recruiting after his resignation was announced by Jim Harbaugh and athletic director Warde Manuel Saturday.

Schembechler, son of former longtime Michigan head coach Bo Schembechler stepped down from his role with the football program after racist and insensitive content surfaced in his social media feeds.

“Effective this afternoon, Shemy Schembechler has resigned his position with Michigan Football. We are aware of some comments and likes on social media that have caused concern and pain for individuals in our community.

“Michigan athletics is fully committed to a place where our coaches, staff and student-athletes feel welcome and where we fully support the University’s and Athletic Department’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.”

Detroit News

Following Schembechler announcing his return to Ann Arbor last Wednesday, multiple offensive posts and “likes” were found on his Twitter page. This according to the Detroit News’ Angelique Chengelis included supporting a racist notion that “slavery and Jim Crow were a positive to strengthen Black individuals and families”.

Schembechler’s Twitter feed was scrubbed and eventually deleted before the content was brought to the attention of Harbaugh and Manuel Friday according to Chengelis.

Should’ve never been hired in the first place

Aside from being a racist and a mid-level NFL scout at best over the past 25 years (the guy was fired by the Las Vegas Raiders before returning to Michigan) what was clear is Schembechler never should’ve been allowed to return by the program.

The school and the athletic program continue to get a massive pass when it comes to the gross and incredibly serious Dr. Anderson sexual abuse allegations that spanned decades. Not to mention Bo Schembechler’s implications in those same allegations it’s a cruel slap in the face to continue to turn your back on the victims but go out and continue to hire individuals from the Schembechler family.

I mean, can you imagine Penn State going out and hiring a Paterno to become the head of recruiting for the Nittany Lion football program? Or any athletic program in Happy Valley for that matter?

It’s all fucking disgusting.
