Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com is reporting that Lions QB Matthew Stafford underwent right shoulder surgery today and will be sidelined for about four months.
Kowalski mentioned that the shoulder that was indeed injured twice during this past season should be 100 percent by the teams mini camp in May. However Stafford is expected to miss the teams off-season workouts in March.
According to a league source, world renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery which included an AC joint repair and a shaving of the clavicle.
Kowalski also cites a source that Dr. Andrews told Stafford that he could eventually get better without the surgery but that the procedure would be a better approach.
Now this news obviously raises questions with Lions fans as into why now when it was reported a few months ago that surgery would not be needed and that rest was the best solution? Why not get the surgery then as opposed to now? Stafford missing the off-season workouts in March really isn’t concerning however it would be nice for Stafford to get as many reps as possible considering the amount of time he has missed since being drafted by the Lions.
