Detroit

With the NFL Draft essentially here, the Lions still sit in a prime position with the seventh overall pick that’ll garner attention from teams looking to move up into the top 10. With that in mind it’s always the popular opinion to move back and stockpile more picks, something Lions GM Brad Holmes has been doing.

Apparently though the Lions seemed ready to reverse on that strategy and actually move up from seven.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano, Detroit was entertaining the idea of striking a deal with the Falcons for that fourth overall pick and taking LSU star Ja’Marr Chase. Holmes and the Lions though reportedly moved away from making the deal due to the steep return Atlanta was reportedly looking for.

Anyways, you can see where the mindset is for the Lions heading into the weekend and what they ultimately want to do. The receiver position is obviously an area of need for Detroit given both Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay are both gone. That’s not to say there still won’t be options at seven for the Lions, there most certainly will, in the end, though I’m somewhat relieved the asking price was too much for the Lions that they ultimately decided not to do this.

Giving up picks to move up three spots to draft a wide receiver seems counter productive to what the Lions have been doing.

On the flip, during an episode of the Mike Valenti Show with Rico Beard, Rico proposed a draft-day trade with the Packers that would result in the Lions moving back to 29 overall while also acquiring Green Bay’s 2021 second-round pick and their first and third-round picks in next year’s draft. The whole idea here is the Packers moving up to go all-in on this season which makes sense considering Aaron Rodgers‘ time in Green Bay seems to be coming to an end, as soon as after this upcoming year. What’s unclear though is whether this is a rumor that’s actually being floated, which Rico seemed to allude to, or if this is just some idea thrown out there to engage callers.

Nonetheless, if the Packers are calling offering Detroit this, I’m taking it, no questions asked.
