After a 10-6 season that can only be seen as success, Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is heading into the final season of his current contract. Now it’s expected that GM Martin Mayhew will re-up Schwartz at some point during the offseason however if you’re expecting the head coach to comment on his contract situation you’re very much mistaken.
“The next time I talk about my contract will be the first time,” Schwartz said. “Maybe I should say the next I talk about my contract will be never.”
The Lions took the first steps in bringing back Schwartz by re-signing most of his staff to extensions.
“It’s just something that I’m not really going to comment on because it has nothing to do with where we are and the success of the team,” Schwartz said. “It has nothing with what we are on a daily basis. For us to be successful we need to sort of stick with … we can’t expect carry over to be from last year to this year, just like we talked a lot last year about winning the last four. That doesn’t necessarily mean that it carries over. It’s all about the process and what we go through and none of that is going to change.”
Since taking over the team back in 2009, Schwartz went 2-14 his first season, 6-10 his second season and 10-6 this past season. The Lions also made the postseason in 2011 for the first time since 1999.
