According to the Detroit Free Press, Lions CB Aaron Berry was arrested for the second time within the past 30 days this time for misdemeanor simple assault. Reports say that Berry was arrested at 2:3oAM ET for brandishing a hand gun in Harrisburg, PA. A handgun his lawyer says he has a permit to carry.

Berry was previously arrested this offseason for DUI and has since agreed to enter a diversionary program for first-time offenders. However he is the seventh Lions player to be arrested this offseason and becomes just another name to the long list of NFL players who have had their run-in’s with the law this year.

Here are some other details of the report (via Mlive.com)

“Obviously, I’m limited in what I can provide because it’s a pending investigation,” a person answering the phone at the Harrisburg Police Dept. and identifying himself as Cpl. Gautsch said; a Cpl. Kyle Gautsch works for the department. “It looks like he was charged with three counts of simple assault and there was a firearm involved. Any other information would have to be disclosed by our press-release guy.”

Gautsch said Berry was taken into custody around 2:30 a.m. Saturday and is “no longer at our holding facility.” He declined to say if the firearm was registered.

The Lions also released a short statement regarding the arrest.

“We are extremely disappointed by the reports involving Aaron Berry.  We are currently gathering more information and will have further comment when appropriate.”

When Berry had his first run in back on June 23rd it seemed pretty clear that the team should’ve made an example out of him and cut him. Now, given everything that’s happened for the Lions in the offseason anything less than Berry’s dismissal from the team is too lenient. A team that has had discipline problems not only off the field but on the field as well needs to make it very apparent that behavior like this will not be tolerated going forward. If that doesn’t happen you can probably expect more in-game penalty problems next season.
