Longtime Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard is expected to retire after 14-seasons in the NHL — all with Detroit.

The news was reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman during “Saturday’s Headlines” who noted that Howard turned down former Wings GM Ken Holland to play in Edmonton. Howard instead said he was “happy with his family” while Friedman further mentioned that an official announcement from the veteran netminder should be coming here in the next few days.

The 36-year-old Howard originally seemed ready to move on from the Red Wings as an unrestricted free agent after a down season with the team in 2019-20.

Howard though will finish his 14-year NHL career with Red Wings franchise totals ranking him third in games played (543), third in wins (246), and fourth in both save percentage (.912) and shutouts (24).
