The days of freezing your asses off trying to make your way to the Auto Show will soon come an end.

According to various media outlets, the Detroit International Auto Show will officially move to week of June 8th starting in 2020. The change in dates was due in part to combat against auto makers pulling out of the event in 2019 and limit the competition against other shows around the United States during the month of January. The switch was also made however to take advantage of other venues around the City as well as offer new exhibits with the better weather June will bring.

The auto show will stay inside Cobo Center in Detroit, but additional exhibits will be open at “multiple venues throughout Detroit, and perhaps, beyond,” organizers say.

“The ability for participating brands to deliver dynamic exhibits and experiential opportunities outside of the show’s four walls for attending journalists, industry members and consumers, will provide new avenues to showcase the products and technologies on display,” reads a statement from the NAIAS. “Delivering greater ROI through reduced costs and dynamic opportunities will be a key aspect of the future show … Plans have been underway for over a year as NAIAS stands ready to embrace this evolution with its move to June and provide a fresh international platform for hundreds of brands to highlight their innovations.”

In addition to Cobo Hall which will still house part of the event, Hart Plaza, the Detroit RiverWalk, Campus Martius, Woodward Avenue and Grand Circus Park are also slated to host different attractions associated with the event. And speaking of some of those new attractions, here’s some of what will be on tap come 2020:

  • Dynamic Vehicle Debuts
  • Ride and Drives
  • Autonomous/Automated Driving
  • Off-Road Challenges

Essentially the new dates for the show fall into a larger sequence of events throughout the City that’ll begin with the Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle, followed by the Auto Show while the Fire Works will cap off what’ll shape up to be a busy month of June going forward.
