Ansar Khan of Mlive.com has an article posted up on Mlive.com where Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard gives his thoughts on the possibility that the Wings sign veteran net-minder Evgeni Nabakov.
“Whatever helps the team helps the team,” Howard following the morning skate at Scottrade Center. “But I think for the most part everyone in here is planning on having (Chris Osgood) back here whenever he’s due back.”
According Khan, Wings GM Ken Holland shot down rumors that Chris Osgood’s recovery is taking longer then expected or that he may be out for the season. Holland mentioned that Osgood is still expected back in early to mid March as he continues to recover from sports hernia surgery.
Like Khan mentions in his article and a question that many Wings fans have to be asking themselves is if the Wings do sign Nabokov what happens to Osgood?
Many would think that Nabokov would only be in Detroit for the rest of the year providing insurance in case it does in fact take Osgood longer to return or if Howard goes down with another injury. However in order to make the deal unattractive to other teams who may claim Nabokov on waivers, Khan believes that Holland may sign Nabokov to a multi-year deal with a no trade clause. Wings fans also have to keep in mind that neither Howard or Osgood are signed beyond this season (although I believe Howard will be back next season and for many seasons to come).
Here is tonight’s anticipated lineup according to Khan…
Franzen-Zetterberg-Eaves
Hudler-Filppula-Bertuzzi
Draper-Helm-Miller
Tatar-Abdelkader-Mursak
Lidstrom-Kronwall
Ericsson-Rafalski
Salei-Kindl
Howard (starting)
MacDonald
