The Pistons finally have a new head coach in place.
According to the Associated Press, the Pistons have hired former New Jersey Nets head coach and Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank to a three-year deal with a team option for a fourth year.
After the team fired former head coach John Kuester in June, Frank was named as a candidate along with other potential replacements including Mike Woodson, Bill Laimbeer, Kelvin Sampson and Patrick Ewing.
The 40 year old Frank from Teaneck, N.J. replaced Byron Scott as New Jersey’s coach in January 2004 and began his career with a 13-game winning streak. He ended his stint with the Nets with a losing streak that was even longer. He was fired in November 2009 after the team started that season 0-16.
Frank takes over a Pistons team that’s finally looking to rebuild after being financially handcuffed with ownership issues the past couple seasons.
