Former UM Safety Boubacar Cissoko was sentenced to 19 months to 15 years in prison today according to Greg Kruppa of the Detroit News. This all stems from Cissoko’s involvement in four robberies that happened earlier this year.
“I am truly very sorry, you honor,” Cissoko said. “I take full responsibility for my actions. I had a lot going for myself, and then I found myself in a bad place,” he said.
According to Kruppa, Cissoko admitted that in June, about five months after he was dismissed from the team he stole money from two people that delievered food to him in Ann Arbor and a Cab driver in Ypsilanti. This all happened on March 13th of this year. In addition to robbing the Cab driver he reportedly stuck a pellet gun in the drivers face before running off after seeing how frightened the driver looked.
“All I wanted to do was just play football, and then I couldn’t do it,” Cissoko told Brown, as he stood before the judge in an orange prison jump suit, handcuffs and ankle shackles. “No excuses, your honor. I take responsibility for what I did. It was wrong.
“But I still have a love for the game.”
Cissoko was born in Ghana, a country in Western Africa and graduated from Cass Tech in Detroit where he ranked as high as third in the nation as a safety.
The Judge told Cissoko that he had no objection to him entering a boot camp which could reduced his overall sentence.
“Sometimes people find out the most about themselves when they’ve got nothing going for them,” Brown told Cissoko. “What is important is what you do about it now.”
