According to Vincent Goodwill of the Detroit News, new Pistons owner Tom Gores has hired ex-Knicks president Dave Checketts as a consultant. Checketts and his firm SCP Worldwide have been advising Gores in the early stages of his purchase of the team from Karen Davidson Goodwill writes.

Now many might be thinking that what effect does this have on current Pistons president Joe Dumars?

In short, it doesn’t. The addition of Checketts is temporary.

However Checketts did push for the Pistons to interview former Knicks star Patrick Ewing for their vacant head coaching job which they did last week.

Checketts, 55, has been president of the New York Knicks and Utah Jazz as well as the CEO of Madison Square Garden Inc. Madison Square Garden currently owns the New York Knicks and the NHL’s New York Rangers.
