According to TSN.ca, the Anaheim Ducks have fired head coach Randy Carlyle and replaced him with former Washington head coach Bruce Boudreau who was fired from his job with the Capitals this past Monday.
Speculation had begun to circulate regarding Carlyle’s dismissal after the Ducks have begun the season at 7-13-4 with only 18 points, good for 14th place in the Western Conference.
Boudreau, was relieved of his duties in Washington after falling out of favor with his players, specifically superstar Alexander Ovechkin and failing to stop the tailspin the team is in after starting out the season strong at 7-0.
In a press release, Ducks GM Bob Murray said a change was needed.
“This was an extremely difficult decision,” said Murray in a release. “Randy is a terrific head coach, and did a tremendous job for us for six-plus seasons. We thank him greatly for his hard work and dedication to our franchise, not the least of which was a Stanley Cup championship. At this time, we simply felt a new voice was needed. Bruce is a proven winner with a great track record, and we are optimistic we can turn this season around under his leadership.”
In addition to Carlyle, assistant coaches Dave Farrish and Mike Foligno were also relieved of their duties with the team.
