Tim Twentyman of the Detroit News is reporting that Lions RB Kevin Smith may want out of Detroit.
Twentyman points out that Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, who covers the Dolphins, reported that he (Kelly) saw Smith during a workout. During this encounter Smith wanted Kelly to pass along a message to the Dolphins and that message was… “come and get me”.
Miami does have some running back question marks considering Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams both could not return next season for the Dolphins.
Smith will be a restricted free agent after signing a three year $1.79 million dollar contract his rookie season. According to Twentyman, if Smith does want out the Lions will have to make a decision on the way they want to approach getting Smith out of town. The Lions could tender Smith with a draft pick meaning that any team that signs him will have to forfeit a draft pick.
Smith has been dealing with injuries the past couple season but has shown some signs of life when inserted into the lineup.
In terms of the depth chart, it would seem that Smith sits behind Jahvid Best and Maurice Morris.
