Nate Steinwascher is officially back in the fold for Detroit City FC as the club announced that they have re-signed the keeper to a two-year deal which includes an option for 2024.

2023 will mark the eighth season in Rouge and Gold for Steinwascher, a Detroit Mercy alum whose ascension in lower-league soccer has really been a reflection of Detroit City as a whole. Steinwascher has been with DCFC essentially every step of the way making a massive impact in some of their more memorable games, especially during the current Trevor James era. Stenwashcer’s laundry list of big games includes being in net for Detroit City’s win over Liga MX side Atlas back in 2019, the club’s NISA Championship in the summer of 2021, and DCFC’s win over MLS’ Columbus Crew during this past season’s Open Cup.

This past year when Detroit City FC made the jump to the USL Championship, the second tier of soccer in the U.S. pyramid, Steinwascher was arguably the best keeper in the league helping propel City to the playoffs in their first season in the USL-C. Additionally, Steinwascher’s play, not just this past year but throughout his career beginning in NPSL has furthermore reinforced the growing notion that a club’s position in the United States is based on nothing more than the ability of billionaires to bankroll teams into MLS.

Bottom line, this is a massive signing for Detroit City FC who again not only brings back arguably the best keeper in the USL Championship but further solidifies a defense that was also one of the best in the USL ine 2022.
