Detroit City FC are 2019 NPSL Members Cup Champions.

Le Rouge clinched the title tonight with a 1-0 win over the Michigan Stars FC to remain undefeated in Members Cup play with the season finale coming up this Saturday from Keyworth against the Milwaukee Torrent.

Although DCFC only needed a draw in tonight’s match to clinch the Members Cup, Detroit wouldn’t be denied that extra exlamation point.

After a scoreless first half, Yazeed Matthews netted the game winner in the 67′, sealing the Cup after slipping by the Stars defender to put it past Michigan keeper Tatenda Mkuruva.

Detroit City really controlled a good portion of the 93 minutes keeping a good deal of pressure in the Michigan end. The Stars though got by far the best chance in the first half on a break which was promptly denied by DCFC keeper Nate Steinwascher.

Nonetheless, Wednesday night was quite the culmination for City and their supporters on a 2019 season as bigger things are on the horizon. With Detroit conquering the NPSL Members Cup the Club will make the transition to the NISL next season – the third tier of US Soccer – as their grassroots efforts continue to pay off for the team and community.
