A few days ago, Tribe manager Terry Francona indicated that the newly acquired Leonys Martin was suffering from a serious medical condition that caused him to be away from the team and receive treatment. This came after Cleveland placed Martin on the 10-day DL with an ‘undisclosed illness’. Today we learned more about what exactly is keeping Martin off the field and it certainly sounds pretty concerning.

According to president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti, Martin has been suffering from what is described as a ‘life-threatening bacterial infection‘ that has affected ‘multiple organs‘.

The 30-year-old Martin who the Tribe acquired at the deadline from the Tigers made an immediate impact hitting two home runs while going 5 for 15 for a .333 average. The good news for Martin is reports suggest he’s getting better and an outlook for his recovery looks positive.
