To many, tonight isn’t just another game between the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics, it is the first meeting since Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva accused Celtics star Kevin Garnett of calling him a ‘cancer patient’.
After the November 2 romp of the Pistons, Villanueva posted the following message on his twitter account courtesy of Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press
“KG talks alot of crap, he’s prob never been in a fight, I would love to get in a ring with him, I will expose him,”
The next day, Garnett defended himself with the following statement…
“My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact ‘You are cancerous to your team and our league,’ ” Garnett said. “I would never be insensitive to the brave struggle that cancer patients endure. I have lost loved ones to this deadly disease and have a family member currently undergoing treatment. I would never say anything that distasteful. The game of life is far bigger than the game of basketball.”
Villanueva  who has a medical condition called alopecia universalis which results in hair loss, has tried to put the incident behind him indicating that tonight’s game with Boston is just another game.
“I’m not worried about him, man,” Villanueva said after scoring 25 points. “It’s just another game.”I’m just going to go out there and play and not going to worry about it.”
According to Ellis, Villanueva doesn’t expect an angry Garnett. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
