Contrary to some rumors making the rounds, the NHL, Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs have yet to confirm that 2013 Winter Classic will be held at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.

The Red Wings and Maple Leafs being featured on HBO’s 24/7 is also just a rumor at this point as well.

Despite the rumors, there is a strong belief that Detroit will host the 2013 Winter Classic with Michigan Stadium and Comerica Park in downtown Detroit being the most obvious venues.

The NHL will be attracted to Michigan Stadium’s capacity and the thought of having 100,000 plus fans in a stadium watching a game. However Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch has obvious interest in holding the game at Comerica Park given his financial ties with the stadium.

Some websites have said that a Winter Classic at The Big House announcement could be coming in the next few days.

Again what does remain clear is Detroit is the odds on favorite to be the next host of the Winter Classic but anything else beyond that is pure speculation at this point.
