Even though they didn’t win the Big Ten, the Michigan Wolverines will be rewarded after a very impressive 10-2 record under first year head coach Brady Hoke.

Sunday night the Wolverines accepted an invitation to the Sugar Bowl against Virginia Tech on January 3rd from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

After being on the outside of the top 14 heading into this past weekend, Michigan was able to get enough favorable outcomes to finish up at #13 in the final BCS standings.

Michigan now makes their first BCS bowl appearance since 2006 when they lost to USC 32-18 in the Rose Bowl. The Wolverines last played in the Sugar Bowl back in 1984 when they lost a 9-7 decision to the Auburn Tigers.

In terms of Brady Hoke, the Michigan head coach is 1-0 in bowl games. He beat Navy 35-14 in last year’s Poinsettia Bowl as the head coach of San Diego State. Hoke also guided Ball State to a bowl game in 2008 however didn’t coach in it after accepting a job with the Aztecs in San Diego.
