With the Cliff Avril contract negotiations progressing slowly word broke last week that the Lions were planning on using the franchise tag on the young defensive end as early as this coming Monday. A franchise tag for Avril would more than likely pay out around $10-$11 million dollars and give both sides more time to work out a long-term deal.

What’s important to remember in all of this is Avril stated last week that it’s his desire to return to the team and the Lions have made it no secret that they want him back. Any and all issues will more than likely be resolved as training camp is still months away.
