Anthony Mantha was an absolute machine Sunday night as the Red Wings defeated the Dallas Stars in the home opener 4-3 with all four goals coming courtesy of the Detroit forward.
Additionally, Mantha helped Detroit erase a two-goal deficit when he lit the the lamp in the opening minute of the second period while knotting the score at two on the power play about 10 minutes later.
Then with 53 seconds left in the third Mantha blasted home the game winner off the face-off to send the Red Wings to their second win in as many nights while pushing their season record to 2-0.
Now as much fun as it was seeing Mantha singlehandedly dismantle the Stars there are still some concerns. Namely the rest of the offense not getting going.
Outside of the top line of Mantha, Dylan Larkin, and Tyler Bertuzzi, the rest of the Red Wings forwards have been responsible for just one goal which came via Luke Glendening‘s game-winner Saturday night against the Predators. Meanwhile, Sunday night would have been a golden opportunity to get anyone else outside of Mantha, Larkin or Bertuzzi on the score sheet considering Detroit was just one-for-eight on the power play.
In the end, though, a win is a win for the Red Wings and 2-0 on the year with most of the scoring coming via the top line is certainly better than 0-2 with multi-line contributors.
