Pistons’ Singler to stay in Spain this season

According to agent Greg Lawrence, Pistons 33rd overall draft pick Kyle Singler has opted to sign a deal with Real Madrid and will not play with the Pistons this season.

Singler, a forward out of Duke, has taken to the Spanish league very well. He had an outstanding showing with Alicante (of the same league) averaging a team high 15 points and shot 47 percent from the field. Singler will replace Rudy Fernandez of the Dallas Mavericks on the Real Madrid roster.

“Real Madrid presented a really attractive package that Kyle couldn’t pass up,” Lawrence said. “While playing in Alicante, Kyle fell in love with Spain, but he’s also looking forward to career in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons.”

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Pistons have been very high on Singler since drafting him and cannot counter any offers until after December 9th. The Pistons however will retain Singlers rights next season when it’s expected he will be back in the NBA and with Detroit.
