The Lions will hold workouts for veteran quarterbacks after backup Tom Savage suffered a concussion when he was sacked three times in a 31-3 preseason loss to the Patriots.
According to Mike Garafolo, the Lions will work out Josh Johnson and Landry Jones on Saturday who both are still looking to sign on with an NFL team this offseason.
Johnson — whose spent time with 12 different NFL teams during his career — spent last season in Washington where he actually guided them to a 16-13 win over the Jaguars in Week 15. That win marked Johnson’s first as an NFL starter in 10 years.
Throughout his career, Johnson has appeared in 33 games throwing for 1,632 yards, eight touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He was also offered a contract by the Ravens this offseason but declined searching for a better fit for himself. Whether Detroit is that fit or not is still yet to be seen.
As far as Jones goes, he’s coming off a season with the Jaguars after serving as a backup in Pittsburgh for five season until he was released in 2018. He didn’t appear in any games for Jacksonville last year but in 18 regular-season games, Jones has passed for 1,310 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.
